Starbucks continues to build on its commitment to the community through its partnerships with the Dubai British School and Abu Dhabi Community School in the UAE during the summer months. Starbucks is fully engaged with these activities which are a part of its ongoing Community Connections program that aims to connect, discover and respond to the needs of local neighborhoods & communities.
In one project, Starbucks UAE employees partnered with students from the Dubai British School and collected over 2500 cans. This was a collective contribution to a Go Green initiative where students of the DBS school and Starbucks partners joined hands to collect and send the used cans to the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) for recycling. The used cans were collected in recycling bins surrounding the stores in an effort to reduce environmental impact.
In another Go Green initiative, the Dubai British School also collaborated with Starbucks in a planting activity to encourage care for the environment among students. Taking place in the comfortable setting of their classroom, the children were taught how to plant indoor and outdoor plants in a fun and interactive activity. The students also used Starbucks coffee grounds as an additional nutrient to add life to the plants, further encouraging the importance of caring for the environment.
In addition, Starbucks also partnered with Abu Dhabi Community School to refurbish the school’s library. The Starbucks Abu Dhabi team visited the school to donate books to the library and refurbished the student’s study area.
Rana Shaheen, Regional Communications and CSR Manager at Starbucks MENA said:
“These diverse initiatives are part of Starbucks’ companywide commitment to support its local communities. We are dedicated to building a future conscious community that encourages young children and adults to care for our environment today and indeed for tomorrow. It is through such partnerships with like-minded schools and NGOs that we are able to continue developing our focus on the key pillars of youth empowerment and care for the environment. “
Starbucks partners (employees) have been building on the Community Connections program for the past three years across nine markets in the Middle East. To date they have delivered over 170 projects amounting to over 10,200 hours spent on community service in the region.
