The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City on Tuesday started issuing subsidized foodstuffs to UAE citizens for the months of July and August as part of preparations for the advent of the holy month of Ramadan.

Large amounts of subsidized food items are provided to meet the requirements of citizens during Ramadan based on quotas issued directly to citizens through the two distribution centers at Al Muroor and Musaffah during the official working hours.

Commenting on the move, the Director of Customer Service, Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, Mohammed Ali Al Murar said: "The Municipality is seeking to diversify the items offered at the two distribution centers during Ramadan and deliver services matching to the spirit of the holy month through providing new commodities such as dates and vegetable oil. It has also set specific criteria for the distribution of these foodstuffs in quotas proportional to the number of family members.

"Preparations for this month started early in order to satisfy the needs of citizens during Ramadan at the highest quality standards in a way depicting the Municipality’s keen attention to the welfare and improved services offered to citizens. A set of specific standards have been put in place to ensure the distribution of foodstuff in quantities proportionate with the number of family members out of its social responsibility to ensure a superior quality of life and a sustainable environment for Abu Dhabi residents," he continued.

According to the new measures, which started to be implemented by the Customer Service Division, customer services such as issuance of cards, issuance of allocated quotas and receipt of cash amounts in respect of these commodities, have been transferred to Customer Service Centers. Following the completion of these formalities, clients need to go to foodstuffs issuing points to take delivery of the required items.

Among the features of the new system is that it directly clarifies the stock of foodstuffs, and shows buyer details together with allocated quotas. It also enables the buyer to book the required foodstuffs, pay the respective amount at any of the customer service centers spread all over Abu Dhabi city, and receive the foodstuffs from either Al Muroor or Musaffah Distribution Center.

Foodstuffs distribution centers affiliated to the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City are privileged by a special and constant support from the UAE wise leadership as they have a strategic dimension in offering subsidized food items to Emiratis at special standards, specifications and prices that involve no profit margin vis-a-vis the market prices.
