Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi has recently embarked on large-scale campaign to raise awareness about the Centre’s project Abu Dhabi Census 2011, under the theme ’Our Census, Our Future’.
The Abu Dhabi Census 2011 is a major national project that will provide official statistics and build an updated database on the residents of each of the regions of the emirate (Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and the Western Region). The information from the 2011 Census will provide a complete picture of the population characteristics of the emirate, both nationals and non-nationals, in line with the global trends in this regard.
SCAD launched its campaign from Liwa in the Western Region, where the Centre is participating in the ’Liwa Dates Festival’ as well as through the Summer in Abu Dhabi Festival at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
SCAD’s awareness brochures and giveaways distributed at the Centre’s stands during the two festivals were met with positive response and encouragement from the public.
SCAD reiterated its keenness to seize all opportunities and activities in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi to communicate with the residents of the emirate and promote awareness about Abu Dhabi Census 2011 project, for which the field operations to collect the required data are due to start in early October and lasts about five weeks.
The Census will strongly support development plans in the emirate through providing updated statistical information on life in the cities, towns, suburbs and rural areas of Abu Dhabi Emirate; analyzing the information obtained through the census and comparing it with information collected through previous censuses in 2005 and 2001, to find out how the population of the emirate has been growing and changing over the years and how it is likely to grow and change in the future. The census results will thus help decision makers and businesses take important decisions, and to draw up development plans in various areas such as education, health, transport, employment, etc.
As SCAD explained, the Centre’s enumerators will collect basic information about Abu Dhabi population like: age, gender, nationality, the rates of internal and international migration in the emirate, educational attainment, relationship to the work force, occupational structure of the population, marital status, employment status, the economic activity and economic sector of the establishment where the individual works, etc. Data confidentiality is guaranteed by the law establishing and governing the work of Statistics Centre- Abu Dhabi, said a release from SCAD.
The Census project will use the latest electronic devices to collect data, help the field staff locate their enumeration districts and save and email the completed forms, which will be available in two types: the electronic questionnaire, to be used for family households, individuals in share-households and individuals living in public housing-work camps, farms and other workers’ accommodation; and the paper questionnaire for individuals living or staying in hotels, hospitals, student dormitories, etc.
The electronic and paper questionnaires are available in both Arabic and English. Translators will be available at each Centre for respondents who do not speak either of these languages.
SCAD announced the availability of temporary job opportunities on the project on a part-time basis with evening working hours, for competent individuals interested in joining the project team, with generous rewards awaiting successful candidates.
