The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), organizer of Liwa Date Festival, aims to promote the culture of palm and ripe date among generations through this festival which stimulates palm farming in environment-friendly way with the ultimate aim of improving the quality of production and preserving the palm tree.
Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage’s pavilion in the festival is exhibiting various collections of handicrafts, including bags, clothes, perfume sprays, ripe date baskets and key hangs, and features this year a collection of laptop bags, mobile phone bags made for the first time exclusively for the festival. The bags have designs inspired by heritage and tailor made to fit different sizes of laptops. Heritage women handbags and cosmetics bags are on display too.
Ms Safia Al Qubaisi, the Handicraft Development Officer at ADACH, said the festival is part of the authority’s strategy of preserving and further developing the physical and moral heritage of the emirate of Abu Dhabi, with a particular focus on the palm tree which occupies a prominent position in the human memory of the UAE community.
She added that the authority’s pavilion is keen to highlight the creative production of the heritage crafts by displaying a lot of handmade products and the daily use tools and encouraging the survival of these professions.
Mathew Crossman, a tourist from Australia, said that these products reflect the lifestyle of the UAE people and clarify how they managed to invent their tools and overcome the difficult life conditions. He was interested to know more about the UAE heritage, lifestyle and the handmade products which depend mainly on palm in home, food and drink among others.
Michael L from the United Kingdom expressed admiration of the idea of making laptop and mobile phone bags in a way that reflects the local identity and the keenness to keep up with the modern times. He admired, also, the daily use tools which introduce the genuine UAE traditions to the visitors.
