The Secretariat General of the Abu Dhabi Medical Distinction Award announced today that nominations are open for the Award starting from July 17 until August 29, 2011.
The award launched by the Health Authority - Abu Dhabi (HAAD), the regulatory body of the health care sector in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, aims to celebrate quality, innovation and excellence in healthcare by honoring healthcare professionals for their accomplishments and contributions to the improvement of the health care sector in the Emirate.
H.E. Eng. Zaid Al Siksek, Deputy Chairman of the Award and CEO of HAAD said: “Improving performance of healthcare professionals and their competencies is a cornerstone for better quality of healthcare services in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and is one of the strategic objectives of HAAD. The Abu Dhabi Medical Distinction Award is created to recognize, honor and motivate health care professionals in Abu Dhabi to improve on their work for better health care services to the community.”
The Secretariat also announced the nomination requirements and mechanisms, stressing the role of healthcare facilities in recognising and honoring outstanding healthcare workers, through their nomination for the award. The terms and conditions of nomination for the award include:
• Letters of nomination must be issued by employers/organizations only.
• It is strongly recommended that employers/organizations nominate at least 50% of the nominees to be U.A.E. Nationals.
• Employers/organizations must have both inpatient and outpatient services; or affiliated with academia.
• Nominations from governmental and educational organizations will be accepted as long as 60% of candidate’s work is devoted to clinical works.
• Each organization is limited to 8 nominations maximum in total.
• All nominees have to be HAAD licensed, when applicable.
• All nominees are to be submitted electronically at the latest by the 29th of August 2011; using the online application. Late nominees will not be accepted.
• No hard copy, supporting information, such as videos, CDs or posters, will be accepted; unless by prior arrangement.
• The entry must specify the category of nomination.
• Nominees must adhere to the respective suggested eligibility criteria for intended nomination category.
• Nominees must complete and submit provided “Criteria Checklist” for intended nomination category.
• Before nominees are accessed by the Awards Steering Committee, they will be vetted by the Awards Secretaries to ensure the nominees comply with relevant regulations and standards; and to ensure unbiased selection.
• The Awards Steering Committee also reserves the right to declare joint winners in any given Award.
• The decision on winners and finalists in each category is final.
• Nominees will be requested to supply a suitable photo. The work/images may be published or used for promotional material or publicity related to the Awards. Photos should be provided electronically on request.
• It is essential that achievements are dated and listed in chronological order. They should describe outcomes.
Failure to include dates could affect an applicant’s score as weightings are attributed to the timing of achievements.

The nomination process takes place electronically through HAAD’s website, www.haad.ae/adma and electronic submission of the following:
• Application (electronic)
• Typed current Curriculum Vitae detailing the nominee’s academic background, experience, previous positions, and listing all published work.
• Biographical Narrative (Maximum 1000 words)
• Motivation Essay (Maximum 1000 words)
• Letter of Nomination from nominating employers/organizations
• High resolution Personal photo
• Copy of HAAD License, when applicable
• Copy of publication citation, when applicable
• Copy of board Certifications, when applicable
Four finalists from each category will be invited for a personal interview with the Awards Secretaries and Awards Steering Committee. Two of the four finalists from each category will be announced as winners and invited to attend Awards Ceremony.
Categories of the award include Surgical Performance Distinction Award, Clinical Performance Distinction Award, Medical Research Distinction Award, Medical Teaching Distinction Award, Allied Health Distinction Award, Health Administration & Management Distinction Award, Clinical Diagnostics & Laboratory Distinction Award and Medical Volunteer Distinction Award.
