The Summer in Abu Dhabi festival at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC), which opened last Thursday has posted record opening weekend attendance.
Between the event’s opening day and Sunday 11,300 guests flocked to ADNEC - a 108 per cent rise on the 5,421 visitors who attended during the same period last year. Thursday’s public holiday helped attract huge crowds, with 3,741 visitors - up 2,983 on the 2010 opening day - ensuring the festival’s best-ever first day yield.
On Friday 3,293 passed through the gates - up nearly 1,500 on the equivalent day last year - and continued in to Saturday, when 2,477 paying visitors saw the three-day attendance figure soar past 9,500 - more than double the corresponding 72-hour opening tally last year. In excess of 1,700 guests flocked to ADNEC Halls 9-11 on Monday, taking the four-day total up to 11,300.
"After canvassing last year’s feedback, we have significantly expanded our presence at ADNEC to four halls for 2011, including a dedicated space in Abu Dhabi Hall for the Middle East debut of ’Cartoonival’ - our big show which starts on July 21," said Faisal Al Sheikh, Events Manager, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA), which organises the festival. "The record attendance is a fantastic response to this year’s line-up and puts us well on the way to achieving the 65,000 visitor target we have set for the festival’s fourth ADNEC outing."
