Australian Adventure Awaits Emirati Students
(3 July 2011)
Emirati Students From Abu Dhabi And Al Ain Leave For A Trip Of A Lifetime To Bendigo, Victoria

Thirty Emirati students have set sail for Bendigo in Victoria as part of a ‘Summer Abroad Programme’ that will see them enjoy the very best of Australian culture and its unique lifestyle.

The students from Abu Dhabi and Al Ain flew out to Bendigo, a regional city located just under two hours north of Melbourne, on Friday (July 1st) morning and will undertake an action packed programme of activity throughout July.

They will be homestayed by families who take them into their homes and treat them as their own, whilst showing the students a slice of the Australian way of life. A trip to Melbourne to see the famous Australian Rules Football (North Melbourne v St Kilda) at Etihad Stadium is early in the agenda, and the youngsters aged between 16 and 18 will also be taken to wildlife parks, outdoor camps and for a cruise down the Murray River aboard an historic paddle steamer.

This will all be mixed in with regular English classes at Bendigo TAFE and trips to local universities, galleries and weekends to the Grampians, a National Park that is one of Victoria’s most popular holiday destinations.

The programme is a partnership between the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) and Bendigo TAFE, who is welcoming students from the UAE for the second year running, along with support from the Victorian Government Business Office (VGBO) in Dubai.

John Butler, Commissioner for the Victorian Government Business Office, said:

“This programme is designed to achieve an enriched two way cultural experience and provide a forum for the students from the UAE to share knowledge and vice versa. It’s also a strong community cultural exchange, with the students participating in many fun and varied activities in the community during their time in Australia.”
