The 8th group of female Abu Dhabi University students will attend a training program from the 23rd of June to the 19th of July 2011 at the Al Maktoum College, an international research-led college of higher education, in Dundee, Scotland.
His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and the UAE Minister of Finance, is the patron and sponsor of the Al Maktoum College, which is an independent, non-profit educational charity and one of a small number of private colleges of higher education in the UK. His vision of multiculturalism is at the heart of every training program at the Al Maktoum College.
The training program will focus on multiculturalism and leadership and a number of contemporary global issues, such cultural engagement and global awareness. The training program, designed specifically for female students from the UAE and Qatar, is an annual event and a carefully selected group of students are invited to attend.
During their stay, students will also visit the parliaments of the United Kingdom and Scotland. This forms part of the training program and provides them with an overview of the supreme legislative bodies in the UK and Scotland. These visits are an important part of the training program, since students will not only attend a number of parliamentary sessions, but they also will get the opportunity to meet some of the members of parliament.
Moza Al Zaabi from the ADU College of Arts and Science, specializing in Environmental Science, expressed her happiness for being chosen to attend the program, saying that the trip will really boost her self-confidence and allow her to interact more freely with different cultural groups.
She added: “I’m also keen on developing my skills such as quick decision-making and social participation. Being amidst the many diverse ethnic backgrounds will also help broaden my knowledge about how others see the world. I thank Abu Dhabi University for making this dream a reality.”
Omneya Al Refaei, an MBA student from the College of Business Administration said: “I hope that this trip will increase my research skills, present me with new experiences and help me serve my country better.”
She added: “I am determined to represent my country, as well as learn about the civilization and culture of Scottish people. I also seek more confidence and the courage to express my opinions and to be engaged in discussions covering a variety of topics. I wish to gain new friendships that will last even after I return to my homeland.”
