Abu Dhabi University launched a creativity competition aimed at unveiling the hidden talents of future students in March 2011. 20 schools participated: Abd Al Qader Al Jazeri School, Aisha Bin Abi Bakr School, Al Dhabyania School, Al Eman Private School, Al Manahal Int School, Al Mawheb School, Al Qadesya School, Vision Private School, Umm El Emarat School, Cambridge School, Sunrise English Private School, Rosary School, Modern School, Iranian Private School, International Community School, Emirates National School, SKBZ Arab Pakistani School, Al Worood School, Palestine Secondary School, Al Nahda National School, and Ashbal Al Quds School.

Dr James Mackin, ADU’s Provost, launched the competition and outlined the importance of the competition in his speech welcoming participating schools and students. He described the competition as an opportunity for young minds to express their creativity in a structured forum while addressing contemporary issues – an ideal platform to give a voice to the talents of the participants, the brain-trust of the future.

The competition consisted of 4 categories representing the 3 schools of excellence at ADU. “UAE History and Heritage” was the first category, where students had to create a two minute narrative video or digital presentation on the UAE’s heritage and history. The 2nd category was “The Model Green House”, in which students had to design a video, digital presentation, or poster that outlined the design of an environmentally friendly habitat, focusing on the efficient use of energy and water. The 3rd category of the competition was “How Would You Advertise Abu Dhabi University”. Students had to create a two minute video advertisement of Abu Dhabi University, portraying ADU’s vibrant student life, its programs and facilities taking into consideration the theme and target audience. The 4th category was “Construct a National or International Landmark”, a project aimed at constructing a steady model of a national or international landmarks using sticks, cardboard, Styrofoam or gypsum plaster.

Judges for the competition comprised of faculty representatives from the schools of Arts and Science, Business Administration, and Engineering and Computer Science. The panel of judges for the 1st category consisted of Dr. Aleya Said, Ms. Nudrat Qayyum and Dr. Mohammad Alzyoud. Dr. Deena Elsori, Dr. Gabrielle Mailloux, Dr. Jill Lewis, Dr. Mohamad Tarek were the judges for the 2nd category. The 3rd category was judged by Mr Ahmed Dahduli and Dr. Jacob Chacko. The panel of judges for the 4th category consisted of Dr. Essam Dabbour, Mr Omer Mughieda,and Ms Yasemin Nielsen.

Awards were handed to winners along with awards for each participating school and certificates of participation were given to all participants in a glittering ceremony in Abu Dhabi.

1st place and best narrative video winner for 1st category, “UAE History and Heritage”, was Enas Awni from Aisha Bint Abi Bakr School. 2nd place went to Israa Farouq Bashir from Vision Private School. Rania Jamal Salem from Al Iman Private School won the 3rd place. Raneem Ryaid from Al Manhal Private School won the award for “Most Vibrant Video”. “Most Comprehensive Video” was awarded to Raneem Al Saoud from Al Manhal Private School. The award for “Best Animation Video” was given to Amira Mohammed Mahmoud from Al Dhabyania School. The winner of “Most Inspiring Video” was Alaa Ahmed Borhom from Aisha Bint Abi Bakr School.

Ameera Al Marzouqi from Al Worood School won the 1st place for the 2nd category “The Model Green House”. 2nd place went to Farah Muttahara from Cambridge High School. Sarah Hasan from Vision School won the 3rd place. The award for “Most Creative Design” was given to Mohammed Nazieh Tamer Al Zaher from Private Modern School.

1st place winner for the 3rd category “How would you advertise ADU” was Ali Wissam Ayoub from Al Worood School and the 2nd place went to Mohamad Kamal Kaafarani from Al Nahda School. 3rd place and winner of “Most Promising Junior” was awarded to Alaa Amro Mohammed Ali from Al Dhabiania School. Winner of “Most Creative Video” was Ahmed Magdi Ahmed from Al Iman Private School.

1st place winner of 4th category:”Construct a National or International Landmark” was Romeo Chiwawa from Al Worood School. 2nd place went to Sara Al Shehi from Aisha Bint Abi Bakr School, and 3rd place went to Rahms Naveed from Al Worood School. The award for “Most Creative Project” was given to Hamdi Mohammed Al Hamli and Dina Mohamed Al Muhiribi from Private Modern School. The “Best Engineering Principle” award was given to Ward Sultan from Emirates National School AD. The “Best Aesthetic Project” award went to Abdullah Al Muhairi from Al Worood School. The award for “Best Details” was given to Marwa Hany from Aisha Bint Abi Bakr School.
