Two Thirds Of Funding Achieved To Give Special Needs Children New Educational Facilities
(7 April 2011)
Much Needed Funds To Be Raised At Special Care Centre’s 3rd Annual Gala Dinner

The Special Care Centre is aiming to raise a total of AED 1 Million for the ‘Donate A Brick’ campaign at the 3rd Annual Gala Dinner on Friday 22 April. The campaign is working towards building a much needed, purpose built school for children with mild to severe disabilities. The Special Care Centre has been raising funds for the past 3 years and has already raised two thirds of the money required to build the new school. This year’s Gala Dinner aims to significantly add to that figure.

“The annual gala dinner is an event many people look forward to each year. It is a chance to socialize with many of our supporters and gain new friends as well. We are encouraging businesses and individuals alike to support this great cause by becoming a sponsor, or by simply coming along and having a great night out,” said Reem Al Fahim, Vice Chairperson of the Special Care Centre and one of the event’s key organisers.

Reem Al Fahim continues, “The Special Care Centre, a non-profit organization, has been providing education and therapeutic services for children with special needs in Abu Dhabi for over 20 years. The current school has reached maximum capacity, with over 100 children on the waiting list. To continue to provide the community with much needed services for children and families with special needs, the Special Care Centre will move into a purpose built campus that will accommodate 400 students. We have raised over AED 17 Million towards the Donate A Brick Campaign and by reaching our target of AED 1 Million at the Gala Dinner, we can help to ensure construction commences this year for the new school.”

Last year’s Gala Dinner attracted over 450 people and raised a total of AED 1.2 Million for the campaign. Now in its third year, the dinner, a ‘must attend’ event on Abu Dhabi’s social calendar, is to be held at the Fairmont Bab Al Bahr Hotel in Abu Dhabi. Event organisers will transform the Fairmont’s ballroom into an extravaganza, filled with circus performers breathing fire, walking on sky-high stilts and performing other circus type antics. Radio 2’s DJ Fadi, will be the hosting the evening and playing great music to ensure the dance floor is full throughout the night. Other highlights include a four course menu of mouth-watering food, raffles and an auction.

The Donate A Brick campaign is working to build a school for the community by the community. The goal is to collect a total of 5 million bricks, each brick costs AED 5. The current funds have been raised with the overwhelming support of the community; businesses and government entities have sponsored the campaign and worked pro-bono, schools and various organizations have held fundraisers, whilst hotels and other companies have organized events for the students and held in-house fundraisers, and countless volunteer hours have been spent manning the Donate A Brick Stands.

This year’s top tier sponsors currently include: Standard Charter, Al Fara’a, CERT, Fairmont Bab Al Bahr Hotel, Mubadala, National Bank of Abu Dhabi and Etihad. Additional sponsors are welcome, with a range of sponsorship packages still available. Individuals are also encouraged to support the campaign by attending the evening; tables of 10 can be purchased for AED 4,500 or single tickets for AED 500. If people are unable to attend, monetary donations or gifts for the evenings’ raffles and auction can also be pledged via the website. Please visit www.sccgaladinner.com for more information.
