17th GCC Stamp Exhibition ’Abu Dhabi 2011’, hosted by Emirates Post and Emirates Philatelic Association opened at Marina Mall in Abu Dhabi yesterday.

Hundreds of curious onlookers gathered at the venue to view a fascinating collection of stamps from the GGC countries as well as see some rare exhibits of postal history that record the development of posts in the region.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Thani Bin Jarsh, deputy acting President of Emirates Post Group, in the presence of high-ranking officials of participating GCC countries and senior officials from Emirates Post Group and subsidiaries.

Abdullah Alashram, CEO of Emirates Post, said, " Such exhibitions are a testament to the importance of cooperation between the postal administrations of GCC and for developing a common strategy for promoting philately (stamp collecting) as an educational and entertaining hobby, especially among the youth and school children." Several programs, including educational workshops for school children, will be held on the sidelines of the exhibition.
