‘Small World Abu Dhabi 2011’, a unique fund raising charity event, was held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, on the 31st of March 2011 at Emirates Palace in Abu Dhabi.
‘Small World Abu Dhabi 2011’ was organized by Plush Events in partnership with HCT (Higher Colleges of Technology) to serve as the closing ceremony of EWB (Education Without Borders). Additionally, Small World was supported by diamond sponsors Mubadala and CERT and gold sponsor Foresight. du also supported this event (bronze sponsor) as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility strategy that aims to promote education and initiatives led by young UAE talents.
Based on the vision of Mrs. Salam Hamzeh Ghaith, founder of Small World, this one of a kind charity event brought together a number of different communities, from 28 different countries, residing in the UAE. The participants included nations from the five continents, each of whom displayed an aspect of their cultural identity, including national cuisine, wardrobes, music and dances.
What made this event unique was the nomination, by each participant, of a children’s charity organization from their country of origin. Fifty percent of the funds raised from both ticket sales and sponsors’ contributions will be attributed to a single charity group that is deemed to be the most in need of financial help. The remaining fifty percent of the funds collected will be evenly distributed amongst the nominated charities.
Small World also featured regional and international celebrities and dignitaries.
H.H Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan said; “Small World celebrated human connections, international dialogue and a strong support for the less fortunate of our fellow global citizens - values that are fundamental to our collective vision for the United Arab Emirates”.
