Largest Ever Abu Dhabi Delegation To Take Part In Hannover Messe 2011
(29 March 2011)

With foreign trade figures from the UAE’s capital hitting AED 109.18bn in 2010, Abu Dhabi is firmly positioning itself as a key player in the international business world.

Non-oil exports climbed 22.2 percent on year and re-export rose 26.4 percent, highlighting the competitiveness of UAE products across the world, says Department of Economic Development ( DED) in a statement issued today.

And as the emirate drives forward its Economic Vision 2030 and the move to a sustainable, knowledge based economy, the Department of Economic Development (DED) has cited Hannover Messe 2011, taking place under the mantra of "Smart Efficiency", as an excellent opportunity to further position Abu Dhabi as an industrial hub across many oil and non-oil based markets. As the UAE’s fifth largest trade partner, an official agreement with Germany was signed in 2004 announcing a strategic partnership between the two countries.

Abu Dhabi DED will be making its fourth consecutive appearance at this year’s five-day trade show in Hannover, Germany, taking 13 partners from Abu Dhabi’s core industries to participate, including Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Abu Dhabi Council for Economic Development, Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, Abu Dhabi Ports Company, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, Abu Dhabi National Oil Company, Abu Dhabi Systems and Information Centre, Advanced Technology Investment Company, General Holding Corporation, MASDAR, Statistic Centre - Abu Dhabi, Western Region Development Council and Zones Corp. As well as sub-partners Al Ain Plastic, EmCan, Emirates Float Glass, Emirates Steel and Tawazun Precision Industries.

Hannover Messe is the largest technology and investment event of its kind in the world, bringing over 145,000 trade visitors from 71 countries. Taking place from 4-8 April at the world’s largest exhibition centre, Abu Dhabi DED and its accompanying delegation will be showcasing the wealth of experience and expertise from the emirate. Mohammed Omar Abdullah, Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development Undersecretary, has been a firm supporter of the emirate’s participation in the international trade fair.

He said: "It has been an excellent year for Abu Dhabi industries and as we drive forward with the Economic Vision 2030, it is important to increase our position on the international stage to drive awareness of the diversification of the industry and our commitment to developing a sustainable economy.

"The UAE is Germany’s most important trading partner in the Middle East and our relationship thrives year on year. This year we will take a mixture of new and returning partners in our delegation to date across to Hannover, which has been an extremely successful event for all our partners, and we look forward to continuing to forge lasting and successful relationships with companies and investors in Germany as part of our strategic integration of Abu Dhabi in the global business community", he added.

During its five days in Hannover, the delegation will be play host to the exclusive Abu Dhabi Lounge during the event’s opening ceremony, and the Abu Dhabi Forum, which will see a number of the participating partners present an overview of their company together with an insight into its expertise together with current and future developments. The Forum is open to all visitors and exhibitors, designed to help bring a cleared understanding of Abu Dhabi’s industries and the role it has to play in the world of global trade.

With significant investments and partnerships already secured in German, including the expansion of Advanced Technology Investment Company’s (ATIC) Dresden based GLOBALFOUNDRIES, which signifies the increasingly important relationship formally established through the Abu Dhabi - Saxony Partnership in May of last year.

In addition, Masdar has been in collaboration with several German companies and research institutes for a number of years and has also established a solar thin-film module manufacturing facility in Ichterhausen, Thuringia, Masdar PV. The most recent of Abu Dhabi’s German partnerships comes courtesy of Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) who has teamed up this month with TUI AG to launch a three-month marketing promotion throughout the country.

He concluded: "We look forward to welcoming friends, colleagues and associates on the Abu Dhabi stand during Hannover 2011 and to another successful event."
