The Abu Dhabi Corniche will witness the final day of WOMAD Abu Dhabi 2011 on Saturday 9 April 2011 with a bang (and plenty of fantastic musicians).
The festival organized by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, will present an extraordinary line up of artists from across the world at the Corniche in Abu Dhabi from 7-9 April 2011 and Al Jahili Fort in Al Ain from 7-8 April 2011.
Saturday 9th April 2011
Fuse sounds of a gypsy brass band with traditional Bulgarian polyphonies, add an electric guitar and traditional percussion with a curious rock accent, toss in a background of a bedevilled string orchestra and deep sonorities of a male choir and there you have Goran Bregovic Wedding and Funeral Band. He promises to create music that our soul recognises instinctively and the body greets with an irresistible urge to dance.
In addition to this whirlwind of sound there will be two brilliant artist collaborations between Hindi Zahra (France/Morocco) and El Tanbura (Egypt) and the other between Tarab Al Emarat (UAE) and Omar Bashir (Hungary/Iraq). Finally, Speed Caravan (Algeria/France) including the enigmatic Medhi from WOMAD Abu Dhabi 2010.
Other artist confirmed at The Corniche is: Sain Zahoor (Pakistan). With workshops from Ripton Lindsay (Jamaica) and Aurelio (Honduras) and Khaira Arby (Mali) will be stirring the pot at Taste the World.
Prepare to be amazed, delighted, excited by the sights, smells and sounds at WOMAD Abu Dhabi 2011.
