For the third successive year, L’Officiel Middle East, the region’s leading luxury fashion magazine for Arab women, is presenting the 2011 Arab Woman of the Year Awards to pay tribute to inspirational Arab women in Abu Dhabi.
The prestigious event celebrates the achievements of remarkable women who have excelled in the arts, business, fashion and charity fields and pays homage to their valued contributions to the community. The awards evening will be held at the glamorous Fairmont Bab Al Bahr on the evening of Wednesday 18th May.
The select panel of expert judges led by L’Officiel Middle East Editor Nadine El Chaer and joined by Fatima Al Jaber, Najah Hussain and Sumayyah Al Suwaidi, will be reviewing the high profile nominees for the different categories.
A Bachelor Degree holder in Architectural Engineering and number 7 in CEO magazine’s 100 Most Powerful Arab Women list, Fatima was the recipient of last year’s L’Officiel Middle East Business Award and currently holds the position of Chief Operating Officer for the Al Jaber Group. Through her positions as Chairperson for Abu Dhabi Business Women’s Council and Deputy Chairperson of the UAE Businesswomen’s Council, Fatima has been heavily involved in the empowerment of Emirati women.
An Emirati born and raised in the UAE, Najah Hussain is the Managing Director of SAREEM Consultancy; the first marketing agency to be managed and owned by an Emirati woman. Throughout her 10 year tenure, she has managed numerous multimillion dollar marketing budgets for her international clients across a range of industries including leading Abu Dhabi based companies; Aldar, Mubadala, GHC, Emirates Foundation, Abu Dhabi Investment Company and Arkan (PJSC). Najah is renowned for being the lead member of the Emirates Airline marketing team during its first 13 years of operation and for the 1995 unsolicited CBS “60 Minutes” piece presenting Dubai for the very first time at a global level to over 55 million viewers.
Hailed as the first female Emirati digital artist, Sumayyah Al Suwaidi made her artistic debut in 2001 with a series of digital paintings inspired by the late sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan. She owns the famous “Grafika” multi brand stores in Abu Dhabi, and launched her fashion label “SEEN” in February 2010. Sumayyah was last year’s recipient of L’Officiel Middle East Best New Talent award and is a fervent supporter of bringing the art scene closer to the UAE community.
With a bachelor degree in journalism, Nadine El Chaer, group editor of L’Officiel Middle East and Ahlan! Arabia has a diverse journalistic background spanning a variety of roles in the media industry. Nadine is a member of the “Women Journalists Without Borders” an organization which seeks to contribute to the care of human rights in general and women’s rights and private press in particular.
