SEHA’s Dialysis Unit On Track For October 2011 Completion
(24 March 2011)
New independent centre to host 68 individual dialysis units and provide health services to more than 325 patients

Abu Dhabi Health Services Co. (SEHA) has announced that construction works at the new independent centre for dialysis in Al Mafraq area are on schedule, with completion expected in October 2011. SEHA aims to complete the project, the first of its kind in Abu Dhabi, in a record time of 11 months. The clinic will host 68 individual dialysis units, providing health services to more than 325 patients.

In line with its aim to develop infrastructure on par with international healthcare standards, SEHA has also announced plans to add two other similar centers; one situated in Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, Abu Dhabi, and the second in Tawam Hospital, Al Ain. SEHA wants to reach the overall capacity of 204 stations, thus providing effective and efficient Dialysis services to patients.

The Chief of Facilities and Construction Division at SEHA, Mr. Saif Al Hameli, said: “SEHA aims to provide healthcare service competitive with the best in the world for the citizens and residents of Abu Dhabi, and in fact the region. The addition of Al Mafraq Dialysis Centre will increase the number of units by more than 70%; while all three centers will cumulatively increase the number of units by over 200%.”

Built on a total area of 7,407 square meters, Al Mafraq Dialysis Centre is the first specialised Centre in dialysis and will include 68 kidney dialysis units. It will offer two VIP suites, two isolated units for infectious diseases, and four units for children. The dialysis centre is designed using modern cues that ensure easy access to a 105-car parking area, and utilize the latest technology and specialized equipment in the field of dialysis.

“Our aims are to invest in infrastructure and build new hospitals and healthcare centres, in addition to developing our current hospitals. Projects include the new Mafraq and Al Ain Hospitals, which are on track for completion, and nine ambulatory healthcare clinics in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. This is merely the first phase, and others will be announced shortly,” concluded Al Hameli.

SEHA has also announced recently that Al Mafraq Hospital was a winner for the Hospital Build Middle East Awards for 2010, in which it won the Best Sustainable Hospital Project. The new hospital complex is distinguished by four prominent patient towers and striking contemporary architecture indicative of the state-of-the art medical facilities housed inside it is based on an environmentally friendly design, using fiber optics for interior lighting. It makes use of reusable resources, recycling water and relying on the widespread use of solar energy. SEHA’s Al Ain Hospital was also recognized for the Best Hospital Design award with a status of Highly Commendable. It is being built on the theme of a ’Healing Oasis.’ The facility is designed to combine the friendliness of an oasis village with state-of-the-art medical services and 688 beds.
