Talent Week Gives ADU Students And Staff To Celebrate Unique Abilities
(20 March 2011)

Abu Dhabi University (ADU) hosted the ‘ADU Talent Week’ from 6th to 10th March at its campus in Khalifa City, giving its students and faculty the opportunity to showcase their undiscovered talents and express their unique abilities. Students from a number of Abu Dhabi state schools also participated during the ADU Talent Week.

More than 100 students took part in the Talent Week, displaying a wide variety of creative skills, such as singing, poetry, drawing, other performing arts and football. A selection process to find the best talent took place over two phases: contestants were first required to qualify, and qualifiers then conduct performances in the presence of judges. The panel of judges included member of ADU staff, as well as Hassan Al Sheikh and Rania Younes from “Star FM”, whose presence drew the interest and enthusiasm of the students.

ADU Chancellor, Dr. Nabil Ibrahim said, “The annual Talent Week is a highlight in the social calendar of all ADU members as it is the ideal platform for them to showcase other aspects of their personality, and to receive praise and admiration for their talents. We encourage more and more students to participate at the Talent Week, and celebrate their uniqueness.”

One highlight was the ‘Doodle Art’ competition for students to demonstrate their imaginative doodle-sketching skills, organized by RedBull who also honoured the winners in this category.

“At ADU, we recognize the wide variety of abilities and skills that our students and staff possess. The Talent Week is a celebration of these special skills, and a chance for members of ADU to outshine their peers in something other than their academic programs. We encourage our students to pursue not only their academic goals, but also to develop unique skills that allow them to explore their own passion.” Dr. Nabil added.

ADU Talent Week was organized by undergraduate students at the university who were keen to put up a colorful display of their diverse talents. Despite the large number of contestants that participated at this year’s event, next year’s Talent Week is expected to be a more elaborate affair. The message of the exciting week was simple: to come together in celebration of the arts and to create a spirit of harmony among all at ADU.
