Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB) announced today the launch of its Teshjee’a initiative to encourage its partners, suppliers and stakeholders to increase their commitment to community development and Emiratisation. The initiative seeks to develop a sense of community building among all companies and entities that the bank deals with. It will see ADIB employees raise awareness of social responsibility activities among the people they deal with from outside the bank.
As part of the Teshjee’a initiative, ADIB will include corporate social responsibility and development of young Emarati talents as key criteria when evaluating all suppliers, vendors, consultants and service providers to the bank. Organisations with higher levels of community development commitment and Emiratisation will be placed in a preferred position to partner ADIB.
Explaining the initiative, Tirad Mahmoud, CEO of ADIB said, “We work closely with our partners and suppliers and we want to encourage them to join us in giving back to the community that helped us grow. Through this program, we aim to influence our partners so that the broader UAE society can be better served. We will look favourably at the existing and new partners and service providers that promote Emiratisation in their staffing policies and practices. We will give special attention to service providers that show commitment to hire and train young Emirati graduates in addition to those that actively participate in their local communities.”
ADIB has begun to add the criteria of developing young Emarati talents and community development to the rating process of its partners and suppliers.
“I call upon our partners and suppliers to follow our lead and take steps in creating their own Corporate Social Responsibility and Emiratisation programs as we are convinced that it is not only the right thing to do for the community but it will help them achieve sustainable growth in the long run,” added Tirad.
ADIB leads the banking sector with a 44.5% level of Emiratisation and has announced a host of community focused initiatives in 2010. These include partnership with Emirates Institute of Banking and Financial Studies to train and develop UAE national students and raise their knowledge and understanding of Islamic finance and banking. It has also signed a partnership with HCT to establish the first Institute of Islamic Economics and Business Ethics in the region. In addition to sponsoring major careers fair in the UAE, like Tawdheef Exhibition in Abu Dhabi, National Career Exhibition in Sharjah, and participating as the Platinum sponsor for the 11th Annual Careers UAE 2011 exhibition that will be held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, from 21 - 23 March 2011.In 2010, ADIB won the HRD Award from the Emirates Institute of Banking & Financial Studies and Tirad Mahmoud won its Best Emiratisation CEO award.
