President Lee Myung-bak of South Korea was honoured with the US$500K Sheikh Zayed Prize, the world’s most valuable award for the environment, at a glittering function at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, the Zayed Prize for the Environment, acknowledges outstanding contributions to the field of environment protection and conservation.
President Lee, who was presented with the award by Sheikh Mohammed, was recognised for providing Global Leadership in Environment. President Lee has been acknowledged as the driving force behind beginning the transformation of the Republic of Korea into a pioneer for ‘green growth’.
The government has steered the drive towards creating a sustainable model for ‘green’ development, creating new opportunities in the harnessing of new technologies to anchor economic growth. The country, thanks to President Lee’s efforts, is now firmly on the path of low-carbon, resource-efficient growth.
