Aldar’s Young Emirati Employees First Abroad The Tawteen Leadership Academy’s 2011 Programme
(20 February 2011)

The Tawteen Leadership Academy kicked off its 2011 programme over the weekend with a camp for 35 young Emirati employees of leading UAE property developer, Aldar Properties.

On Thursday, February 17, Aldar employees attending the Academy travelled by boat to Futaisi Island off Abu Dhabi where they spent 22 hours over two-and-a-half days studying internationally acclaimed leadership and management theories.

The camp activities were strengthened with practical exercises including intensive out-door activities and table-top projects, followed by group discussions. All activities expounded the importance of being inspirational, having a vision and being able to articulate this vision to a team.

Attendees were assessed before and after each camp and appraised on their team building and communication skills, leadership style, time management capabilities and their ability to think creatively and cope with change.

Aldar is sponsoring this third Tawteen Leadership Academy, an initiative of the Emirates Foundation for Philanthropy’s Tawteen programme, along with Mubadala Development Company, a major investment arm of the Abu Dhabi Government, British Petroleum, one of the world’s largest oil companies; and Roll-Royce.

The Academy will run 21 similar camps throughout the year 2011 for students, and private companies keen to enhance the future of their young Emirati employees.

Mohamed Jassim Al Neaimi, the Tawteen Programme Director, said the camps were designed to inspire and empower UAE youth and assist in the Emiratisation initiative. "These camps will help unlock potential, by developing the critical leadership and management skills these young people will require in the workplace while enhancing their ability to adapt to different situations and work to a deadline." Abdulla Alkaabi, Property Manager at Aldar, said the group was proud to have been part of the Academy since its inception three years ago. "The results have encouraged us to participate in several of these camps, so as to expand the potential of Aldar’s young Emirati employees."
