Abu Dhabi’s ’Flying Falcon’, Hannes Arch, fired up the crowds at this weekend’s Al Ain Aerobatic Show with his dazzling new ’Rhythm & Air’ routine, which made its global premier at the show.
The stunning sunset act brought together live music, world-class dancers and eye-catching aerobatics in a breathtaking display themed around the four elements of fire, air, earth and water. And in a spectacular grand finale, Arch piloted his Abu Dhabi-branded Zivko Edge 540 aircraft across the runway and up onto the stage, bringing it to a halt close behind a fire actress cloaked in flaming wings.
“It has been great to be back in the emirate of Abu Dhabi this weekend, and to make my first appearance at the Al Ain Aerobatic Show,” said Hannes Arch. “Performing in front of such large crowds, and in such a beautiful location, has been a truly amazing experience. I really can’t think of anywhere better to have premiered my new routine.”
One of the world’s foremost aerobatic stars, Arch is a global ambassador for show organiser, Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) and a former winner of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship. His new display of choreographed movements in the sky over the Oasis City marked a major departure from his home territory of racing.
On the ground, Arch was supported by leading experimental music act, NOISIA, whose music was produced using several unique ’sound sculptures’ made from stainless steel, and Cellist Irmi Vukovich, who has starred for the world-famous Vienna Symphonic Orchestra. Centre stage was the beautiful Karina Sarkissova, principal ballet dancer of the Vienna State Opera, who lit up the stage with her graceful moves that combined dance and classical ballet.
The ninth edition of the show featured more than 25 aircraft, including some of the planet’s best aerobatic and formation teams. Taking centre-stage was the multi-discipline FAI Desert Challenge, which saw six of the world’s best pilots flying in classic and free-style competition formats. They were joined by fighters from the UAE Air Force, aerobatic squadrons from the Turkish Air Force and Royal Saudi Air Force, Team Viper’s Hawker Hunter supersonic fighter jets, and many of the world’s best solo pilots including Abu Dhabi ambassador Hannes Arch.
The Al Ain Aerobatic Show, which concluded on Saturday, was held under the patronage of HH General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and was organised by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) in conjunction with the UAE Armed Forces.
