Aimed at further fostering technology-based entrepreneurship and innovation among researchers, professionals and fresh graduates in the country, this was the first activity of the centre. Winners of the Made in UAE competition will be nominated for the Made in the Arab World awards organised by ASTF.

Out of the nine shortlisted projects, Eisa Al Qubaisi, Osama Al Ameri and Saeed Al Junaibi from the Petroleum Institute, an engineering school financed and governed by Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC), received the first prize of AED15,000. Their project focused on Smart Self-Cleaning System for Solar Panels. The second prize of AED10,000 went to Dr. Ashraf Khalil from ADU for his project Riskometer.

“In ADU, we provide means to foster entrepreneurial spirit within our students and end-to-end assistance for new start-ups, fresh graduates and researches. ADU Enterprise aims not only to further stimulate innovation by offering training, coaching and mentoring but to aid in establishing an enabling environment within the UAE,” Dr. Nabil Ibrahim, Chancellor, ADU, said. “The ‘Made in UAE’ competition allows our aspiring entrepreneurs to develop innovative ideas that will contribute to the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030.”

The competition was sponsored by Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ADCCI), as part of its contribution to fostering innovation and entrepreneurship in the Abu Dhabi Community.

“Competitions are a great way to discover hidden talents in any community and the ‘Made in UAE’ competition has allowed us to identify, honour and support our aspiring entrepreneurs, as well as local innovators,” said Rima Shaban, Operations Manager, Innovation & Entrepreneurship Center, ADU Enterprise.

“In today’s highly competitive economic climate, innovation is an essential tool in contributing to the success of organisations around the region. Through this initiative, we aim to take a step forward in our drive to build a culture of innovation and creativity in the minds of local entrepreneurs. In turn they will contribute to the diversification of the country’s economy,” she added.

The competition’s evaluation committee included delegates from Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ADCCI), Al Hosn University, UAE University, and the Petroleum Institute and ADU. The competition was targeted at faculty researchers, technopreneurs, and senior university student from technical faculties across the UAE.

The award ceremony took place during the first day of the Second Abu Dhabi Innovation Forum, which brought together a distinguished line-up of regional and global innovators to share knowledge in innovation and entrepreneurship. For more information, please visit www.innovation-abudhabi.com.
