The Department of Municipal Affairs (DMA) and the municipalities of Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and the Western Region will showcase 17 energy conservation and sustainable development projects at the World Future Energy Summit commencing from 17th of this month in Abu Dhabi.
The municipal system is seeking to capture the imagination of the local community and delegates from more than 140 countries by bringing to life the benefits of new building codes. The codes, which were launched earlier this month, will unify construction practices across the Emirate and are expected to create better, safer, greener buildings which are more cost-effective and durable and compliant with higher health and safety standards.
Commenting on the municipal system’s participation, Majid Ali Al Mansouri, Chairman of the DMA said: "Our participation and platinum sponsorship of this international event will connect the municipal system with world leaders, international policy makers, investors, experts and intellectuals, all of whom are seeking to find practical and sustainable solutions for today’s energy security and climate change challenges. Our presence demonstrates the progress we are making toward our leadership’s 2030 vision and goals." He added: "The emirate’s municipal system is implementing regulations and processes across all of its operations to minimise energy and water demand. The new Abu Dhabi Building Codes, which are aligned with the Abu Dhabi Estidama programme, will regulate energy and water efficiency for all new construction and major renovations.
This combination of new building codes and Estidama will have a positive impact on the Emirate’s infrastructure and economic growth." Ahmed Shareef, Undersecretary of the DMA said "The new building codes are a major step forward for the Emirate’s construction industry, and are intended to deliver climate sensitive, durable, high performance ’green’ buildings. The new codes will help achieve the DMA’s vision of offering an efficient municipal framework that provides for a sustainable and better quality of life across the emirate of Abu Dhabi, by providing safer buildings that conserve 50 percent of water and electricity usage." He added: "The DMA and the three municipalities have taken steps to conserve energy and water in the Emirate, not only through the new building codes, but also by implementing sustainable projects and initiatives in cooperation with their strategic partners such as the Urban Planning Council (UPC), Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority, MASDAR, Abu Dhabi Police, and the Civil Defense in order to provide a better quality of life for residents, investors, and visitors across the Emirate."
