Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) launched the United World Colleges (UWC) Scholarship admissions cycle for 2011 today, making the application form available for download from the ADEC website. The ADEC-UWC scholarship offers UAE Nationals the opportunity to complete grades 11 and 12 and earn an International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma from one of the most internationally recognized secondary education programs in the world. The scholarship application deadline for September 2011 enrollment is March 31st, 2011.
UWC schools, colleges and programs deliver a challenging and transformative educational experience to a diverse cross section of students, inspiring them to create a more peaceful and sustainable future. ADEC has developed this opportunity with UWC to provide UAE students with an experiential education that develops strong life skills through a range of activities like volunteering in the local community, participating in international debates, and exploring the outdoors to name a few.
ADEC-UWC scholars selected to participate in the program will have the chance to study in one of thirteen international locations: Italy, UK, Netherlands, China, India, Singapore, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Norway, Canada, USA, Costa Rica, Venezuela, or Swaziland.
H.E. Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al-Khaili, Director General of ADEC, said: “ADEC has identified UWC as an international program that will cultivate the kind of graduate and future leaders that the UAE needs. ADEC-UWC scholars will develop into well rounded individuals with strong academic credentials, a high degree of social responsibility, an understanding of global issues and cultures, and a passion and drive to take on our society’s challenges.”
“We want our students to represent the Emirates and be ambassadors of our culture throughout the world,” he added.
In order to apply for the program, students must be enrolled in grade 10 or 11 in the current academic year, and must be at least 16 years of age by 1 September 2011. ADEC will be supporting accepted students with full scholarships.
The UWC Scholarship has a rigorous selection process, admitting students who have demonstrated strong academic performance, personal engagement, leadership potential and interpersonal skills, an appreciation for diversity, and a commitment to community service. Shortlisted applicants will complete a round of interviews with UWC prior to the final selection of scholars.
