From December 19 to 30, 2010 the Education Centre at Al Ain Wildlife Park & Resort (AWPR) will offer the ‘Winter Camp’, a series of wildlife and horticulture related sessions and activities for children aged 10 to 14. Instead of class room education, AWPR’s experienced Education personnel will provide interactive, hands-on experiences to get children in touch with wildlife and nature.
Ghanim Mubarak Al Hajeri, Director General of AWPR, said: “We are pleased to announce the AWPR Winter Camp, an entertaining learning experience in a natural environment. A primary objective for AWPR is the education and inspiration of young people and nurturing the next generation of scientists and environmentalists. We believe that children and teenagers, inspired by their visit to the park, will become passionate advocates for conservation and sustainability in future.”
The program includes a guided tour through the park with close animal encounters such as reptile handling, giraffe feeding, a cheetah presentation and bird show. The Keeper Talks will provide interesting facts and stories about the animals, AWPR’s conservation work in the UAE and internationally, and children will learn about the role and daily routine of an animal keeper. A one of a kind special is the ‘back of house tour’, a thrilling experience for everyone who wants to know how a zoo works – starting from the animal health centre where sick animals are nursed to the animals’ kitchen where the food is prepared, to the training area of the bird house. The core wildlife program will be accompanied by team building activities and games, gardening projects and art classes.
Each ‘Winter Camp’ runs for 5 days (Sundays to Thursdays) from 8am to 1pm. Tickets for the entire 5-day Camp including refreshments and snacks are AED 200 per person and can be booked at AWPR’s Education Centre under 03-7811451 or e-mail to education@awpr.ae.
