The Abu Dhabi International Motor Show (ADIMS) 2010 is ready to thrill visitors from the UAE and wider Middle East as it gets underway this Tuesday. Taking place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from December 7-11, ADIMS 2010 will be held under the patronage of His Highness Lt. Gen. Sheikh Saif Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior UAE.
As the region’s biggest and most comprehensive motor show in the Middle East for this year, ADIMS 2010 will be the first choice for manufacturers to reveal their latest models for the region. But more than that, the show will also host a wealth of activities to make it an event for the whole family.
Tickets are now on sale for only Dh20 and by purchasing a ticket visitors will be entitled to be entered into a prize draw. Children under 5 will be allowed into the show for free. ADIMS 2010 tickets are available at all Virgin Megastore branches in the UAE, as well as ENOC petrol stations and through the Time Out website, www.timeoutabudhabi.com.
THE CAR’S THE STAR
ADIMS has a strong pedigree of premiering the most important new cars in the region. The last edition of the show, in 2008, saw as many as 19 regional premiers from over 30 vehicle manufacturers taking part. These included the Cadillac’s CTS-V 4 and Escalade, and the Toyota Sequoia.
This year will be no different, especially as the show takes place against a backdrop of strong recovery within the automotive industry in the Middle East, with the UAE capital playing a leading role. The 2010 edition of the ADIMS will witness various UAE and regional launches, among them the Chevrolet Captiva 2011, GMC’s Acadia Denali 2011, a range of 2011 Ford Mustangs, the ultra-exclusive Lexus LFA supercar, Kia’s next generation Sportage, the Toyota FT-86G, the Range Rover Evoque, the Peugeot RCZ, the Mazda KAZAMAI concept car, and many more.
FUN FOR ALL THE FAMILY
World record attempts
Between December 9-10, ADIMS 2010 will witness a number of attempts to break the world indoor speed record, which currently stands at just over 132 km/h. Accomplished Emirati racing driver Khaled Al Qubaisi will race along a 340-metre indoor track that has been specially built at ADNEC for the attempt, stretching the length of seven exhibition halls.
Karting
A uniquely designed outdoor kart track has also been built for the show. Visitors can race friends and family and experience the rush of adrenaline that comes with racing these top-of-the-range, high performance karts. Designed by experts from the Al Ain Raceway, the 350-metre track will host 160-cc and 270-cc karts. The track will be open from 4-10pm from Tuesday to Friday, and 12am–10pm on the Saturday.
Red Bull Pit Stop game
This challenge will make its Middle East motor show debut at ADIMS 2010. The Red Bull Pit Stop features an actual Formula 1 car chassis, and visitors compete against one other to record the fastest time possible to make a tyre change. The game does not require any technical experience and visitors of all ages are welcome to take part. It will offer players practical F1 knowledge, and a taster of what it is like to be part of the team that won the 2010 F1 constructors championship.
Off-road experience
Outside the exhibition halls, Al-Futtaim has built a special off-road rig for visitors to test out the Toyota SUV range. Though this driving experience, Toyota is aiming to highlight the abilities of its 4x4 range.
Great competitions
With their ticket automatically entered into a prize draw, each visitor stands a chance to win one of two three-night, all-expenses paid trips to Sri Lanka and India. ADIMS 2010 will also feature a number of other competitions for the duration of the show, including car tinting from Lamasat, car detailing from Royal Detailing, prizes from the Marriott vacation club, as well as test drives and karting tickets.
Child road safety
The International Automobile and Touring Club (IATC) will have onsite activities to educate children on the importance of complying with road and traffic laws. The objective of the campaign is to promote safe driving, urging drivers to obey speed limits and respect traffic lights and pedestrian crossings.
Tinting and bullet-proofing
Lamasat, the Abu Dhabi based tinting company, will be offering on-site tinting services for a 25 per cent discount to ADIMS 2010 visitors. Additionally, Lamasat will also have a live demonstration of the all-new “Glass guard film”, a bullet-proof material that can be installed in both buildings and cars. Lamasat will also take part in the ADIMS daily raffle, giving away exciting prizes to five visitors during the show.
Al Hilal
Al Hilal Bank has been confirmed as ADIMS 2010’s bank platinum sponsor, with the emphasis placed on its on-site car financing offers. On finding a car at ADIMS that they want to buy, visitors can quickly and easily obtain the necessary auto finance and then insure and register the car with Al Hilal. They can then drive home their new purchase within the hour.
Yas Marina Circuit
As a platinum sponsor, the Yas Marina Circuit will provide a venue for free test drives of some of the exhibitors’ latest models.
