Kids who had to stay in Mafraq Hospital during Eid Al Adha festivities were overjoyed by a surprise visit from 11 year old H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Sultan Al Nahyan, son of H.H. Sheikh Sultan Bin Khalifa Al Nahyan, Member of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
H.H. Sheikh Khalifa distributed toys and goodies and played games with many of the children on Mafraq Hospital’s Children’s Ward. Most of the young patients suffer from chronic illnesses which means they are often bedridden, fatigued and need to stay at the hospital for many weeks. The visit from the young royal turned the Eid holiday into a truly special occasion. Children on the Emergency Ward, suffering from accidental injuries such as cuts, bruises and broken limbs, were also cheered by a visit from His Highness.
“We are extremely grateful to H.H Sheikh Khalifa, he put a smile on all the children’s faces,” said Mr. John Nickens, CEO, Mafraq Hospital. “It is so refreshing to see heartfelt humanitarian efforts from such a young man. These acts are the essence of the UAE’s culture and heritage – he is a true role model for the nation.”
Ruth Taylor, Chief of Clinical Affairs and Administrative Director of Emergency at Mafraq Hospital, added: “We always try to keep our young patients entertained - we have toys, decorations, clowns and a number of other activities, but it makes such a big difference when a real live celebrity figure comes to see them. Mafraq Hospital is very community focused and the majority of our patients are nationals - H.H Sheikh Khalifa Bin Sultan is very well known and loved by the children here.”
Mafraq Hospital is owned and operated by the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company PJSC (SEHA), which is responsible for all the curative activities of public hospitals and clinics in Abu Dhabi. The hospital is managed by Bumrungrad International, one of the most renowned hospital management companies in Asia, recognized internationally for its commitment to patient care and customer service.
