“Flower Friends”, a unique fashion show displaying accessories and make up made of date palm trees and date fruit extracts has captivated visitors to The Fourth International Date Palm Festival. The models walked the ramp in stunning creations by Sara Boutique based in Dubai including a dazzling bridal gown worth AED 1.5 million.

SOUGHA supplied hair accessories and bags made of palm tree leaves for the fashion show.

According to Fatma, organizer of the fashion show, “The inspiration for the show is the date palm tree which symbolizes Arab tradition and heritage. A team of hair stylists and make-up artists helped us to add a touch of ‘date fruit’ with hair accessories made from date palm leaves and natural make-up made from extracts of the fruit.”

The fashion show attracted crowds of visitors to the event. The models wore latest designs by Sara Boutique including stunning gowns, traditional jalabiyas and hand printed tops.

According to Qaboos Khalid, director of the festival, Turret Media, “One of the highlights of the festival is the manifold uses of the date palm trees. Many of the visitors to the show said they did not know date palm and fruits can be used in so many different ways from delicious recipes to beautiful handicraft. The fashion show showcased how it can be a part of our daily lifestyle.”

The festival, currently taking place in Hall No: 11 at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre, comes to a close on Saturday. At 4pm today, the organizers will announce the winner of the Cultural Photography competition at an Awards Ceremony in the Date Palm Oasis. The 25 shortlisted entries are currently on display at the Festival Gallery.

The event is held under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister of the UAE, Minister of Presidential Affairs and the Chairman of Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority. The six-day event which kick started on Monday and runs till November 27th is organized by Turret Media and supported by United Arab Emirates University, Khalifa International Date Palm Award, Date Palm Friends Society and Date Palm Global Network with the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority as the strategic partner.

The headline sponsor for the festival is Department of Municipal Affairs.
