The ‘Souk at Qaryat Al Beri’, the premier waterfront dining, shopping and entertainment destination located in ‘Between the Bridges’ in Abu Dhabi, is paying tribute to the richness of the Arabian history through its themed displays, architecture, and ancient artefacts collection, which provide an excellent attraction to local and foreign tourists. The impressive displays include a ‘Khanjaar’, a short curved dagger; pictures of the ‘Saidi Khanjar’, which was worn by the ruling Al Bu Said Family; Silver Jewellery, and native coffee pots called ‘dallah’. In addition, accurate re-creations depicting how Emiratis used to live and how traditional skills such as palm weaving were integral to the Arabic way of life are also on display.
According to a statement from the ‘Souk at Qaryat Al Beri’ management, “The beauty of Arabic traditions and history is a facet that we are so proud to share with our customers, and as we focus on attracting more visitors to come to The ‘Souk at Qaryat Al Beri’, we are leveraging our rich culture to entice them to come visit for a one-of-a-kind experience. By doing so, we are happy to contribute to the growth of Abu Dhabi’s retail and tourism industries, while disseminating knowledge about our beautiful history.”
Providing another dimension to the historical displays at the ‘Souk at Qaryat Al Beri’ is the exhibit of old models of medium format twin-lens reflex cameras called ‘Lubitel’. Given the expanding number of photography enthusiasts in the emirates, the Management is looking to provide an interesting exhibit of these one-of-a-kind photography equipment. The events are part of the ongoing ‘Festival at the Souk’ celebrations, which aim to provide a fun-filled venue for families in the capital. Highlighting Arabic traditions and hospitality during weekly themed events, the activities include ‘Cultural Sundays’, ‘Carnival Fridays’ and ‘Rhythmic Tuesdays’, all of which will be running until the end of the year.
