The Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) has organized orientation sessions for G12 students from private schools to brief them on the Elite Scholarship for Advanced Technology, Al Nokhba, established by virtue of the partnership agreement signed between ADEC and the Advanced Technology Investment Company (ATIC).
Held at Zayed Academy for Girls’ auditorium, it’s been emphasized during the two orientation sessions that the scholarship is offered to help national high school students pursue their higher education and study engineering disciplines at well-known world universities. It also provides a chance for students to obtain an employment opportunity at ATIC after completion of the scholarship.
H.E. Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Director General of Abu Dhabi Education Council, said that “this scholarship comes in line with ADEC’s keenness to provide our students in public as well as private schools with several opportunities to pursue their higher education and post graduate studies in areas of priority widely needed by the job market in Abu Dhabi in order to achieve the goals of the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 aiming at creating a knowledge-based economy.”
“The scholarship program aims to improve student skills and meet the needs of a global labor market. Outstanding high school students will have the chance to study engineering disciplines such as: Electronic Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Computer Engineering, as well as other important disciplines such as Physics and Material Sciences. Students will have the opportunity to receive first-hand training at one of ATIC’s semiconductor fabrication facilities and upon graduation, they will have a chance to be employed by one of ATIC’s affiliated companies” he added.
“All eligible male and female students are encouraged to take part in this program and study and work hard in order to achieve what they aspire for and contribute to the comprehensive economic and social development in UAE. ADEC will continue to support all scholars until they complete their studies successfully,” he added.
Mr. Ibrahim Al Ajami, ATIC’s CEO, said that students selected for the program will be the pioneers in the area of manufacturing semiconductors in UAE. “All students are strongly encouraged to do their best in order to achieve their country’s highly aspired expectations” added Mr. Ajamai.
Distinguished students with high potential and leadership skills, who score 85% or more in the General Secondary School Certificate, also referred to as Thanaweya, will be selected based upon an interview, and a placement and skill test in accordance with ADEC scholarship policies and procedures.
During the orientation sessions, scholarship officials and officers from ADEC and ATIC gave detailed presentations on the program goals, courses, accommodation, training and other related issues. They have also responded to student questions and concerns.
Students lauded ADEC’s efforts and expressed their willingness and enthusiasm for participating in the program. Parents also expressed their willingness to see their sons and daughters join the program, especially after being reaffirmed by ADEC’s officials that all necessary precautions will be taken in order to ensure maintaining student welfare, safety and comfort while studying abroad.
Ms. Merriam Saqer, Principal of ZAFG, emphasized that such a program would provide national students with the necessary skills and expertise to meet the increasing needs of the job market. “Engineering and other priority areas need to be studied by male and female students alike. More orientations will be needed especially for parents of female students in order to make sure they encourage their daughters to positively take part in similar opportunities”, she added.
This year, ADEC has selected 47 students to participate in the program. Efforts are underway to select 60 graduate and post graduate students for the scholarship in the next academic year.
ADEC, ATIC and Global Foundries are collaborating for implementing Al Nokhba program in order to support Abu Dhabi strategic investments in areas of advanced technology and semi-conductors. This will be achieved by heavily investing in UAE human capital on long term and providing national students with world-class educational opportunities. Advanced technology – including semi-conductors industry - is one of the priority sectors in Abu Dhabi and a key indicator for the success of its sought-after economic diversification.
