Inaugural Edition Of Arabian Public Health Forum 2010 To Be Held In Abu Dhabi
(26 September 2010)
MEED’s New Event to Serve as Regional Platform for Sharing Information on Prevention and Treatment of Chronic Diseases

MEED, a primary source of business intelligence for the Middle East, today announced it will host in Abu Dhabi the inaugural edition of Arabian Public Health Forum, a first-of-its-kind event covering current developments in the prevention and treatment of chronic diseases in the region.

Green Crescent Insurance Company PJSC – leading health insurance provider, alongside global biopharmaceutical company Astrazeneca and their Safe @ Heart initiative (supported by Emirates Cardiac Association) are Platinum sponsors of the event.

Supported by the Health Authority of Abu Dhabi (HAAD), Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Abu Dhabi Health services (SEHA) and Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), the event will be held from 11-12 October in Crown Plaza, Abu Dhabi.

Dr. Mahmoud Fikree, Chief Executive Officer of Health Policy Ministry of Health UAE, and other senior health officials from the region will provide a strategic overview of the current extent of treatment for chronic diseases at the Arabian Public Health Forum 2010. The event also aims to throw light on the innovative initiatives being implemented by a diverse range of stakeholders.

Edmund O’Sullivan, Chairman, MEED Events, said: “This event is all about achieving outcomes, the actions initiated, architects of strategies, and everyone’s contribution to achieve better results. It gains even more significance following the steep rise in healthcare costs to treat chronic diseases that have assumed immense proportion worldwide. In the UAE, for example, diabetes is one the main causes for death, a fact that has galvanised officials in the country to launch campaigns to drive home the seriousness of the disease.

“The Arabian Public Health Forum 2010 aims to gather all stakeholders, especially those engaged in tackling the challenges in treating chronic diseases. We believe the event will successfully emphasise the need for everyone in the community to contribute towards social health requirements. In addition, businesses in the healthcare sector may also look forward to potential opportunities in this area.”

Key industry reports indicate the cost of tackling non-communicable diseases currently account for 45 per cent of the government healthcare expenditure in the Eastern Mediterranean region and the level is expected to reach 60 per cent by 2020. Measures to keep such costs under check will also be adequately highlighted by healthcare experts during the event.

The Arabian Public Health Forum 2010 is part of MEED’s comprehensive portfolio of large-scale summit and conferences that offer businesses unique one-to-one networking opportunities and facilitate showcasing of solutions to key target groups and niche professionals.
