Abu Dhabi Triathlon’s Jacobs Rules In Australia
(26 September 2010)
Ironman World Championship Contender makes it two on the trot

As part of a rigid multi-event training regime in preparation for the upcoming Ironman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii, Abu Dhabi Triathlon Team’s Pete Jacobs grabbed his second race victory in almost a month by topping the Forster Triathlon Olympic distance event in Australia.

Following his win at a tough 70.3 triathlon event in the Philippines two weeks ago, Jacobs put in another sterling display in the coastal town of Forster in northern New South Wales to grab the fastest time in all stages - the 1.5k swim, the 40k bike and the 10k run – to finish with an overall time of 1h50m24s.

With stage times of 19m42s in the swim, 58m35s on the bike and 32m6s in the run, Jacobs - who hails from Sydney in Australia - was way ahead of the field and finished a good four minutes ahead of runner up Mitchell Robins.

“It was a huge weekend and the weather was perfect for racing,” said Jacobs, one of five members of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA)-backed elite athletic team who will compete in the Hawaiian Ironman showpiece this October. “I had a good rest last week, after a few weeks of solid training following on from Philippines 70.3.

“I ran 50 metres down the beach and got a lead to the first buoy. I then extended the gap throughout the swim, bike, and run. I pushed hard so I could get a sense of how the bike felt, how I felt, and how I would run off the bike. It was great off the bike and I ran faster than I had in a while and really enjoyed the opportunity to notch up a fast 10km time. I felt good all the way to the finish line.

“If my conditioning remains as good as it was in this race, I am really looking forward to improving on my 8th place finish at last year’s Ironman World Championships,” he added.

Abu Dhabi Triathlon Team, created by ADTA to further the emirate’s performance athletics’ credentials globally, is competing in more than 40 top international events this season, including the Ironman and 70.3 series and the French Championships.

To date, five of the six-person outfit have qualified for the Hawaiian Ironman showpiece, including Jacobs, Faris Al Sultan, Andi Böcherer, Swen Sundberg, and Rachel Joyce, who finished in the top 10 at last year’s event.
