(24 September 2010)
Fifteen of world’s best camels auctioned including seven male and eight female. Nasi and Majd receive joint highest bids of AED 200,000 each; next highest bid of AED 180,000 for Ghazi. All proceeds go towards camel research at Veterinary Research Centre in Sweihan.

This year’s ADIHEX saw some of the world’s top breed camels being auctioned on Thursday. Fifteen of the UAE’s best camels went under the hammer with the proceeds going towards camel research at the Veterinary Research Centre in Sweihan.

The Centre, which was established in 1990 with the support of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed al Nahyan, consists of two main sections: Veterinary Laboratory and Camel Breeding.

The camels auctioned included seven male and eight female. The top bid received was for Nasi and Majd, who were auctioned for AED 200,000 each. The next highest bid received was for Ghazi, a female camel, which was sold for AED 180,000. All camels on auction were under the age of two.

Khalifa Al Nuaimi, Director of Camel and Horse Auctions, explained that the Camel Breeding section of the research centre is concerned with pedigree racing camels and milk-producing camels, and had also overseen many successful projects including breeding over 2,200 pedigree camels via embryo implantation.

"ADIHEX is the perfect platform to showcase these high-breed camels, while generating resources for camel research and breeding. We would like to thank our patrons as well as ADACH and EFC for creating this unique forum and for making us a part of it," Al Nuaimi said.

ADIHEX 2010 is being held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ruler’s representative in Al Gharbia (the Western Region) of Abu Dhabi, the Chairman of the Emirates Falconers Club (EFC), with support from ADACH and the Organization of the Emirates Falconers Club.

The event is co-sponsored by leading corporate organizations including Abu-Dhabi Sports Council, Invest AD, HSBC, Bonyan, Wathba Stud Farm and Areej Al Ameerat.
