(4 September 2010)

The United Arab Emirates has become in the 2010 the world’s 4th best country in terms of reliability of police services, an international report said.

According to the Global Enabling Trade 2010, released by the World Economic Forum, the UAE came among the top 20 countries in the Enabling Trade Index, leading the region at a very strong 16th position, ahead of the United Kingdom, Chile, and the United States.

The UAE also achieved another distinct advantage, ranking 4th in the high levels of physical security.

The report measures levels of violence in each countries, including crime rates and threats to security.

Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Lt. General H.H. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan described the achievement as an "outcome of the wise policy of the country’s leadership and the strategies of the federal government." "This ranking is a fruit of the unlimited and continuous support by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and General H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces." The Enabling Trade Index (ETI) was developed within the context of the World Economic Forum’s Industry Partnership Programme for the Logistics and Transport sector and was first published in The Global Enabling Trade Report 2008.

The structure of the Index reflects the main enablers of trade, breaking them into four overall issue areas, captured in the sub-indexes that are in turn grouped into nine pillars, namely; Domestic and foreign market access, Efficiency of customs administration, Efficiency of import-export procedures, Transparency of border administration, Availability and quality of transport infrastructure, Availability and quality of transport services, Availability and use of ICTs, Regulatory environment and Physical security.
