Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi would like to announce it’s involvement with Noukhada Adventure Company and it’s goal to preserve the natural habitat of the Arabian Red Fox.
This summer, Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi staff will be donating their own time for a one-day clean-up excursion along the Mangroves in a bid to protect the eroding islands and help preserve the natural wild life that currently resides there including the very rare Arabian Red Fox.
During the day the staff will kayak out to the islands and help construct an erosion control fence along the Mangrove adjacent to a natural Arabian Red Fox habitat. This is simply done by filling bags with sand and depositing themaround the surrounding island’s water bank.
Crowne Plaza Abu Dhabi has a long track record in the community and is an active supporter of many Charity organizations including the Pink Ladies Breast Cancer awareness and the “Donate a Brick” campaign under the patronage of Sheikha Shamma Mohammed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The Arabian Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes arabica) is a subspecies of the Red Fox native to Arabia. The Arabian Red Fox is similar in color to the common Red Fox. However, it is more adapted to desert life than its parent species. The fox’s ears are much larger, and its body is much smaller than that of the Red Fox.
The Arabian Red Fox also has fur between its toes, to prevent burning of the feet. It is brownish pale red in color and averages at 4.5 kg in weight. This fox is a solitary animal with well defined home ranges. Its diet consists of rodents, birds, and fish as well as some desert vegetation or even carrion. They are most active at night. The small foxes open the eyes after 10 days from birth.There Arabian foxes live in various environment, mountains, coasts, desert to cities.
Through it adventures, Noukhada Adventure Company seeks to help develop environmental awareness for visitors and residents alike with kayaking, sailing and trail biking. As an eco-tour operator, Noukhada offers low impact tours and adventures to several different locations around the coastal waters and inland areas of Abu Dhabi to educate and promote awareness of the region’s vital eco system.
Over the past year Noukhada has been working with businesses, schools and community groups to reduce the impact of erosion along a newly dredged channel in the mangroves, adjacent to a natural red fox habitat. To date, the attempt to reduce the erosion has been by filling sand bags and erecting an erosion control fence. Since the completion of the dredged channel the foxes have lost over 90 percent of their habitat and this will continue to be lost until they no longer have their dens to survive. We would like to do our part in protecting these rare foxes and their last bit of natural environment.
