Rod Fuller drove the Abu Dhabi Yas Marina Circuit Top Fuel dragster to the semi-finals of the Mopar Mile-High Nationals at Bandimere Raceway in Denver today. His best time during the elimination rounds was 3.981 seconds and his time in his final run was 4.007 seconds. The eventual winner was Doug Kalitta with a run of 3.963 seconds.
“We are very proud of this excellent result in the team’s second race of the year against the best Top Fuel teams in the world, all of which have been racing all season long,” said Richard Cregan, Chief Executive Officer of Yas Marina Circuit. “The Denver track presents particular performance challenges due to its mile-high elevation, which makes the achievement even more remarkable.”
Fuller was making his 100th start as a professional drag racer and was delighted with the result. “The team at Don Schumacher Racing helped us get the car into great shape for the weekend, and the crew under crew chief Lee Beard made some great calls on the set-up in difficult track conditions,” Fuller said. “It felt wonderful to be back competing with the very best in the world and showing what we can do so early on in our US visit. It has also been a great honour and privilege to represent Abu Dhabi here and help introduce the emirate to my fans and to America.”
The team, sponsored by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority, is participating in four races in the US this summer to promote Abu Dhabi as a tourist destination in the American market. Combined attendance at the Sonoma and Denver races exceeded 200,000 over the three days of the race weekend. The Abu Dhabi team’s participation has attracted significant media coverage in the US and across the GCC.
“We have been delighted by the warm welcome and support from the drag-racing community and the fans at Sonoma and Denver,” Cregan said. “We are very much looking forward to the next race at Indianapolis on 4-6 September and the final event in Charlotte in mid-September.”
