ADEC Introduces International School Infrastructure Standards Across Eight Schools In Abu Dhabi
(21 July 2010)

Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) has developed an aggressive plan for school facilities development that includes the construction of new world-class schools and the renovation of existing facilities.

This summer, seven schools located in Abu Dhabi and one located in Al Ain, will undergo major refurbishment works.

Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Director General of ADEC said: "ADEC’s 10-year strategic plan gives priority to providing Abu Dhabi schools and students with world-class facilities, and maintenance, in order to support a child-cantered learning environment. Schools are no longer traditional classrooms; they are learning communities where social, educational and sports activities can be organized to benefit all students, families and the wider community." Eng. Hamad Al Dhaheri, ADEC’s Facilities Management Division Manager, said that the School Refurbishment Project will be managed by Musanada to ensure timely implementation in accordance with the best specifications. Maintenance will ensure that all schools meet safety and security requirements. Moreover, the requirements of students with special needs will be met in order to achieve ADEC’s goal aiming at integrating all students within the education system.

"The number and area of classrooms will be increased and joint learning areas will be built. Schools will be supplied with the best-in-class facilities, technology, and resources. Sustainability features will be incorporated into schools such as energy efficient air conditioning and electricity systems," added Al Dhaheri. Also, the aesthetic aspects of schools will be improved and significant changes will be introduced to school clinics in accordance with the best health standards. Labs and ICT rooms will be furnished and equipped with the latest technology and school cafeterias will also need to meet the requirements of Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority.

Mohamed Khalifa bin Fahd Al-Muhairi, CEO of Musanada, said: "The implementation of the School Refurbishment Project is a priority for Musanada. We have contracted the leading providers of building maintenance, electrical and mechanical works and plumbing services to deliver this program. A team from Musanada is supervising the daily progress in order to ensure timely execution within budget as we need to provide our students with modern and safe schools by the beginning of the coming school year.
