Abu Dhabi Municipality reviews its expertise at Roads Safety Conference in UK

Engineer Abdullah Al Shamsi, Acting Executive Director of Municipal Infrastructure and Assets Sector, Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, headed the Municipality’s delegation to Roads Safety Conference which was held at Birmingham, England; where he reviewed the efforts, achievements and practices of the Municipality in the field of road safety & infrastructure, road projects and strategic initiatives, and how to get them in line with the sustained comprehensive development witnessed by Abu Dhabi Emirate.

During the Conference, Al Shamsi reviewed the experiment of Abu Dhabi city on the safety of local roads along with the efforts and achievements that contributed to a reduction in the rate of accidents as well as associated human and material losses. He also reviewed the record of achievements made by the Municipality and highlighted its leading role in constructing modern roads network at the highest global standards; which in turn contributed to a safe traffic movements to cope with the requirements of comprehensive development built on world-class models and sustainability standards.

On the sidelines of the Conference, the delegation visited the British Carterd Industry of Highways (CHIT), where it explored with CHIT’s President Christopher Jackson the potential fields of cooperation and how the two parties can share the expertise. He called on CHIT to open a branch in Abu Dhabi in a bid to boost the cooperation and ease the exchange of expertise between the two parties in the field of traffic safety.

The delegation’s itinerary included a visit to Traffic Systems Management Center, infrastructure projects licensing program and several key road projects in order to assess the British expertise in the field of traffic safety and review their future plans with regard to traffic ’&’ roads IT system, technologically managed traffic control systems, and means of disseminating traffic culture across the community.

Al Shamsi briefed the British companies on the key achievements made by the Municipality in the field of traffic safety, roads projects and infrastructure. He also reviewed the future development plans set for Abu Dhabi city up to 2030; which envisage making Abu Dhabi one of the best cosmopolitan cities.
