Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH), announced the establishment of the Abu Dhabi Folk Dance Group.

This is a national group which promotes the artistic heritage of the UAE in all its incarnations.

Mazrouei said the plan forms part of ADACH’s strategy to preserve tangible and intangible heritage, in a bid to safeguard and document the artistic culture and identity of the UAE.

He stressed that the establishment of the Group will play a key role in presenting heritage in a way that befits the UAE, both locally and abroad. , He also stressed that the creative work of former generations must be protected, preserved and passed on to future generations.

Mazrouei added that this strategy is also part of a much bigger plan to highlight performance art and dance, and represent these skills at official events and festivals. He stressed that folklore is one of the most important cultural components of UAE heritage, as it reflects both historical and human dimensions and examines their relationship with the country. It is an inspiration to Emirati customs and traditions, and forms a part of the personalities of Emirati citizens.

Meanwhile, Abdullah Al Ameri, Director of the Culture and Arts Department at ADACH, said the Group will consist of creative talents who will strive to deliver the best possible performance locally. The Group will also work to promote the spirit of innovation and creativity in the fields of culture and art.

It would also mean the involvement of civil society in these events and festivals, Ameri added. This would supply a means of developing cultural expressions and knowledge, thus allowing the enrichment of cultural production, and the encouragement of fine arts. All these factors will ensure that the development of intangible and cultural heritage in Abu Dhabi is promoted both globally and at a local level.

He vowed that ADACH would not only establish the Group, but continue its work to develop, improve, and support heritage and art, celebrating the human contribution, and making it an ambassador for the traditional culture of the UAE in global, cultural and artistic forums.
