H.E. Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Director General of Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC), received a cheque of AED 2,163,136 from H.E. Abdullah Bin Oqeidah Al-Muheiry, Secretary General of the Zakat Fund dedicated to Al Ain Schools. The funds will be used for paying school fees on behalf of 394 non UAE national students in private schools who are in need of financial assistance, as part of the “Read” Project carried out by Zakat Fund to alleviate the distress of needy students all over UAE.
H.E. Dr. Al Khaili said “We extend our thanks and appreciation to Zakat Fund for its pioneering role in assisting many students to overcome financial challenges and continue their education. The efforts of Zakat Fund in sponsoring needy students helps support the main priorities of ADEC’s 10-year Strategic Plan, namely, providing all Abu Dhabi students with access to a world-class education to help them global challenges,” he added.
H.E Al-Muheiry said that the “Read” Project aims to provide a secure environment for students in need in the UAE, including nationals and non-nationals, so as not to be distracted from their education. The idea of the project is derived from Allah’s first command to Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, where Allah Almighty said: "Read", he added.
The “Read” Project is one of the earliest projects adopted by the Fund out of the Fund’s firm belief in the importance of education, H.E. Al-Muheiry said. “These students are identified by ADEC and the Fund based upon the social and economic circumstances of students. Cooperation will continue in the future to provide care to our students,” he added.
Zakat Fund is expanding the “Read” project by including the category of university students to help them complete their university education, which has already started this academic year with 30 cases accepted during the first quarter of the year, out of the 50 students targeted for this year.
“ADEC adopted the same word “Iqraa”, or “Read”, in its new logo. It is a deeply-rooted word in Arab-Islamic culture. Iqraa reflects traditions, core values and ideals. Iqraa fills hearts with spiritual knowledge and souls with wisdom this is what forms the foundation of ADEC’s work” said H.E. Dr Al Khaili.
