Mr Douglas also gave attendees a presentation on Abu Dhabi, Aldar and its major retail projects under development.
Aldar is creating a number of major retail developments across Abu Dhabi including Central Market, a mixed-use redevelopment of the traditional commercial area of Abu Dhabi which features a traditional Souk, which will open in the coming months and Emporium, a world-class mall that is set to become Abu Dhabi’s top high fashion address, with signature stores, extensive ranges and fashion’s leading names. Emporium will also feature the first House of Fraser store in the Middle East.
Aldar is also creating Yas Mall, a 250,000 sqm mall featuring a wide range of retail categories from individual boutiques to large format stores at the heart of the Yas Island leisure and entertainment destination. Yas Island will also feature the largest IKEA in the MENA region and the first Géant hypermarket in Abu Dhabi.
Speaking at the event, Fred Douglas commented:
“We are delighted to show our support to IGDS’s Global Department Support Summit by sponsoring the Department Store of the Year award.
This summit allows us to meet with the world’s leading retailers to discuss the industry’s key topics and showcase our major retail projects. Aldar is actively meeting with local and international retailers to discuss the fantastic opportunities on offer in Abu Dhabi today.”
