Abu Dhabi Education Council Students Attain Maximum Number Of Top Scores In Grade 12 Exams
(21 June 2010)

The Emirate of Abu Dhabi came first amongst all emirates for the number of students who placed in the top ten scores for Grade 12 federal examinations. The top ten students amount to 184 and 85 out of them were from the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Director General of Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) H.E. Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al-Khaili expressed his happiness about the positive result and stated that “The reform that ADEC is driving in the P-12 sector is already showing improvements in student performance. The differences in teaching style, which promote creativity and active learning techniques, are helping students feel less pressured by the examination process. This year we received no student complaints regarding the exams. This serves as evidence to the fact that students feel more prepared, more supported by their teachers, and have a more positive attitude towards education,” H.E. Dr. Al-Khaili said.

H.E. Mohamed Salem Al Dhaheri, Executive Director of School Operations in ADEC, said: “This achievement was made possible by the strong collaboration between students, parents, teachers, and school leadership in Abu Dhabi. All of these parties have contributed towards the important growth and development in education that ADEC is striving to achieve.”

Salem al Kithiri, Head of Al Ain Education Zone, said: “The commitment and hard work of our students has helped them reach this positive result. We have been working hard to instill in all students a sense of empowerment and the desire for intellectual development. The administration and faculty in schools have been instrumental in this success by providing the best educational support to our students.”

Khalfan Al Mansoori, Head of Al Gharbia Education Zone, also emphasized that Abu Dhabi leadership has supported equal development of education throughout the emirate. “Thanks to this strong support for educational development in all regions of the emirate, we can no longer consider any area of Abu Dhabi as ‘rural’ anymore. All of our students are receiving equal levels of educational instruction, infrastructure, facilities, and support,” he said.
The top ten score range for science exams included 158 students in total, with 53 belonging to the Emirate of Abu Dhabi: 31 in Abu Dhabi, 16 from Al Ain, and six from Al Gharbia.

Twenty six placed in the top ten for literature, with 5 of these students located in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi: one from Abu Dhabi, two from Al Ain, and 2 from Al Gharbia.
