Obaid Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs, will lead the UAE delegation to the 14th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum to be held between 17th and 19th June 2010.
This is the first time the Ministry of Finance will attend this global forum where top global leaders, finance ministers of G20 countries and senior economic officials from major governments will attend.
Al Tayer stressed the importance of the Forum in light of the partial economic recovery being witnessed by the leading economies of the world. He expects that the global economy will see a 4.25% GDP growth in 2010 and 2011 and predicts that emerging economies will grow by 6.25% in these two years as compared to a growth of 2.5% in 2009.
He also described as important the key topics that will be discussed at the forum.
The topics include, ’The World under change,’ ’Global energy: gas market,’ ’Shaping energy future,’ ’Finance after the crisis, ’Managing sovereign debt,’ ’Sovereign wealth funds’ agenda,’ ’Pension schemes,’ ’BRICs: Fiscal Policy.’ ’Africa’s investment revival’ and ’Rethinking global economic trends.’
The UAE delegation to the Forum includes Khalid Ali Al Boustani, Executive Director of International Financial Relations Sector, Majid Ali Omran, Director of International ’&’ Regional Financial Relations Department, Hamad Al Zaabi, Director of the Minister’s Office and Dr. Hamid Nasr, economist at the Ministry of Finance.
