The International Hunting and Equestrian Exhibition - Abu Dhabi 2010 (ADIHEX) has announced the launch of an international conference on Arab race horses.
This forms part of its scheduled activities and is due to be held between the 22nd and 25th of September, 2010.
ADIHEX is held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Representative of the Ruler in Al Gharbia (the Western Region), Chairman of the Emirates Falconers’ Club (EFC). It is being organised by the EFC in cooperation with Turret Middle East and with the support of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH).
This annual event, unique in the region, has gained wide-spread attention from the public and the media since its inception. Last year 573 companies from thirty-seven countries participated in the event, and the region played host to a total of more than one hundred thousand visitors.
ADIHEX, whose purpose is to highlight the culture and heritage of the United Arab Emirates, also seeks to promote the breeding of hybrid birds in captivity, for use in the sport of falconry. The idea behind this is that they can be used as a substitute for the endangered wild falcons, and simultaneously raise public awareness about conservation and the protection of the environment.
Mohammed Khalaf Al Mazrouei, Director General of ADACH and Chairman of the Organizing Committee of ADIHEX, said that the event will highlight the keenness of the leadership of the United Arab Emirates to preserve their heritage and culture. In addition to this the importance of recognising the values and principles of cultural dialogue between nations and peoples will be promoted.
He paid tribute to the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who had led these initiatives for sustainable hunting and for the further protection of the country’s heritage. He had also been a great supporter of the Exhibition when he visited it during its first session in 2003.
Mazrouei added that the strategy of seeking to safeguard the cultural heritage of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi has been maintained by Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, and by General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces.
The Exhibition continues to organise many events and competitions centred around the themes of heritage, culture and the environment. Previously these have all been received favourably by the public and exhibitors alike. The Exhibition has also organized new events which reflect the quality of its success at all levels, particularly at international horse racing tracks.
Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Director of ADIHEX and Director of the Communications Department at ADACH, said that the two-day international conference on Arab race horses will enjoy the participation of hundreds of experts, researchers and other interested parties.
Participants will be discussing various topics related to horses, including breeding.
