Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development Abdul Rahman Mohammed Al Owais headed the UAE delegation to the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Forum held in Rio de Janeiro city.
Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva had inaugurated the Forum on Friday in the presence of a number of Heads States and Governments, Ministers, UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, representatives of various countries, international organizations and NGOs.
Highlighting the truth that the world has many cultures but a single humanity, a powerful network of over 2,000 political and corporate leaders, civil society activists, youth, journalists, foundations, and religious leaders gathered in Rio to design joint actions to improve relations across cultures and build the conditions for long-term peace.
In a statement to Emirates News Agency (WAM), the minister said that the UAE’s participation in the forum is an expression of the importance of dialogue among civilizations, cultures and religions. It also stressed UAE’s qualities of cultural tolerance respect for cultural diversity and pluralism in a society United Arab Emirates qualities of tolerance and openness to different cultures.
Al Owais noted that UAE is an active player in the Alliance of Civilizations Forum and a member in the Group of Friends of the Alliance, which discusses important issues in the areas of education, media, youth, migration and dialogue between religions.
Meanwhile, the delegation members participated in a number of panel sessions during the forum in the areas of information, education, youth, migration and the empowerment of women.
