Municipality of Abu Dhabi City completes processing applications for building permits online
(27 May 2010)

The Municipality of Abu Dhabi City announced that it has recently kicked in a process of submitting layouts and documents required for issuing building permits online, with the aim of facilitating and simplifying the procedure for consultants, contractors and all beneficiaries of the service. The move brought about a significant shift in the quality of services as the number of permits issued under the new system since inception exceeded 8400 permits, in addition to processing 2700 inspection transactions and 2500 contractor registration transactions under the new system.

The new process comes in the context of a comprehensive plan adopted by the Municipality to upgrade its services and deliver them to customers with diverse segments, requirements and whereabouts in a handy manner that saves their time ’&’ effort, wins their satisfaction and sets the path for the Municipality’s future drive. Such a drive is set to enhance the leading role of the Municipality and boost its corporate identity in the context of a comprehensive strategy aiming at building an integrated model that adds to the Municipality’s impressive array of excellent services.

Engineer Salah Awad Al Sarraj, Acting Executive Director of Town Planning Sector, said: "Upgrading the mechanism of submitting and tracking applications for building permits online stems from the strategy of the Municipality to ease and simplify the processing of all sorts of building permits in a speedy manner, with world-class standards, and the least rate of potential errors associated with the processing of transactions through the traditional paper method. As a result, more than 8400 building permits submitted by about 600 consultants have been processed; which is a record achievement given the time involved compared to the previous system which has since been discontinued.

He continued: "This quantum and quality achievement is attributed to the successful implementation of the new building permits system; which is in line with the customer-focused strategy of the Municipality that seeks to meet the needs and expectations of clients, be it consultants, contractors or ordinary customers, in a speedy ’&’ quality-driven manner.

"The system is interfaced with the Spatial Data Division of the Municipality with the aim of establishing an integrated service project enabling customers to submit and receive their transactions online in a safe environment that maintains the privacy of both the transactions and strategic partners. The new system features high accuracy ’&’ safety standards as beneficiaries are provided with User IDs and Passwords to provide them access to the e-Gate of the Municipality of Abu Dhabi City, and have their transactions processed in a safe, secure and private manner in an ideal setting to enable processing bulky building permits applications.

"Customers can review the comments made by the Municipality, track the process of their transactions online 24 hours a day. The applicant can also review all applications for permits submitted directly or through other parties involved in the design, building, ownership, development or knowledge of the current position of any permit in the system as all building permits have now been incorporated in the new system," added Al Sarraj.
