Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) has opened up applications for its 2010 edition of its highly successful Youth Tourism Summer Camp – specially designed to give UAE national youth an insight into the emirate’s vibrant and expanding tourism industry.
Following on from last year’s inaugural edition, the 2010 programme has been expanded to take in 80 students, from last year’s 70, and 10 additional places have been set aside for handicapped students. This year’s programme is being implemented in partnership with Tawteen, an Emirates Foundation initiative designed to unlock Emirati potential and build meaningful careers in the private sector.
“We have added new elements to the programme, which reflects the emirate’s growing tourism proposition,” said Nasser Al Reyami, Tourism Standards Director, ADTA. “At the end of the course the students will be equipped with vital leadership and teamwork skills and knowledge of the important role of tourism in Abu Dhabi’s future.”
The camp, which will feature a range of modules ranging from sports tourism to culture and heritage, customer service, hospitality and transport, will run for a month from June 20. The students will make field visits to Al Ain, Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Manarat Al Saadiyat exhibition centre, Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Centre, Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management Company, Etihad and various destination attractions.
“We are looking for students with a solid commitment to the camp, which will run from 8-4pm every weekday,” said Paul Ram Prakash, ADTA’s Industry Professional Development Manager. “Applications will be accepted from High School and Secondary School pupils aged between 14 and 16. We hope they leave excited about the opportunities the industry holds out to them and that we see some of them as tourism colleagues in the future.”
Summer camp participants will graduate from the scheme at a special ceremony to be held on July 15.
