Royal Jet - the international luxury executive flight services company based in Abu Dhabi and chaired by His Excellency Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan – is witnessing a massive rise in the number of its charters for sports bookings and an equally significant increase in the usage of its FBO facilities for sports-related events, thanks in no small part to the emphasis placed on sports tourism by the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) as well as the football associations.
Starting with last November’s Formula 1™ Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, at which Royal Jet handled 90% of the visiting aircraft traffic into Abu Dhabi at its FBO facilities, it also handled the aircraft carrying the Inter Milan football team as they flew in to play a match at an Abu Dhabi boot camp.
For charters, Royal Jet has recently been flying football squads to various matches for the qualifying preliminaries of the Asian Champions League.
"We were delighted to fly a number of the teams to their preliminaries, including Al Itihad, Al Wahda, Al Ahli, Al Jazeera and the UAE national team," says Royal Jet’s President & CEO Shane O’Hare. "And we are very much delighted to see that the UAE national team won in its qualifier. I would like to think that Royal Jet played a part in their success!
"Last week, saw the staging of the Laureus Sports Awards in Abu Dhabi, where up to a hundred entertainment and sports celebrities came to celebrate the ’Oscars’ of the sporting world. And already, we are getting a large number of enquiries to fly fans and teams to the World Cup in South Africa in June," O’Hare continued. "With the announcement that Abu Dhabi is to become the Middle East’s first ever host port for the 2011-2012 Volvo Ocean Race, we fully expect yet more sports bookings as a result.
“The growth in Abu Dhabi’s sporting calendar reflects the Emirate’s growing stature as an international venue for sports, art and culture, and I in turn would like to express Royal Jet’s full support of the Emirate in its sports tourism ambitions," O’Hare added.
In explaining the reason that so many sportsmen and women, together with their support teams, rely on Royal Jet, O’Hare mentioned that a chartered flight contributes a lot in helping them to arrive in peak condition.
"This is essential for people involved in physically demanding environments. We help them to meet their intense schedules, and offer onboard menus specially prepared by our team of in-fight chefs. Their meals can be tailored to their exacting requirements, whilst offering them a level of comfort that is unsurpassed by any other carrier,” O’Hare concluded.
