With only days to go until Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva steps into the Octagon™ to defend his Middleweight title belt in Abu Dhabi, the 34-year-old Brazilian has revealed some of the secrets behind his success since entering UFC® in 2006.
“A big part of my life is watching fights,” he said. “I watch all my opponents’ fights, my friends’ fights and my friends’ opponents’ fights! I just watch all day long, it’s an internal studying and it’s the key to having a good fight.”
“If I want to keep on this road, I’m going to have to keep studying my opponents, who are all of the guys in Mixed Martial Arts at the moment.”
Arguably the best pound-for-pound fighter in the UFC® today, Silva lands in Abu Dhabi on a record shattering 10-fight win streak in the UFC®. He has achieved victories over some of UFC’s greatest fighters including Rich Franklin, Nate Marquardt and Dan Henderson in the middleweight division. Despite bringing most of the middleweight division to its collective knees, Silva believes he is far from cleaning it out.
“There may be guys that are even better than me coming into the UFC®,” he said. Proof that there are tough guys in the middleweight division right now is Demian Maia. We’re going to have a great fight in Abu Dhabi. It’s going to be a big fight, a big challenge for me.”
“I feel that my goal is to put on as many great fights in the UFC and have as many victories as I can.”
Silva, who has yet to suffer a defeat inside the Octagon™, will take on his fellow countryman Maia at UFC® 112 Abu Dhabi on April 10th.
It will be the first ever UFC® outdoor event, taking place in a custom-built stadium outside Ferrari World, Yas Island.
