Limousine and taxi drivers in Abu Dhabi are to undergo product knowledge training on the emirate’s expanding portfolio of tourist attractions in a bid to improve the visitor experience.
Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) and TransAD will conduct a series of one-day experiential product knowledge training programme for 210 drivers. Designed by ADTA, the training will be facilitated by its Industry Professional Development Team and Abu Dhabi Travel and Tourism Agencies Council (ATTAC).
“This succinct programme has been specially designed to enhance the drivers’ knowledge of tourism attractions in the emirate and boost their confidence in dealing with our visitors," said Nasser Al Reyami, Tourism Standards Director, ADTA. “It will complement TransAD existing training programmes.”
They will be delivered in two main strands, one focusing on customer service enabling the drivers to better understand visitors and their specific needs. The second strand will concentrate on building the drivers’ knowledge of destination attractions.
“Limousine and taxi drivers take passengers to and from their hotels, business appointments, and recreational pursuits, such as dining, entertainment, and shopping, and to and from business-related events. Professional drivers help both residents and visitors get around Abu Dhabi in addition to regular point-to-point services, when they have the opportunity to share their knowledge of the city,” said Masood Hashem, Director of Regulation, Licensing & Compliance Division, TransAD.
The first training phase will involve 210 chauffeurs representing all seven Abu Dhabi-based taxi companies. Taxi drivers will follow in the second phase with ADTA eyeing a long-term goal of making it mandatory for all new taxi drivers to undergo the training. “Limo and taxi drivers are the first point of contact with visitors and it is important that they share knowledge and accurate information in a confident and friendly manner” concluded Nasser Al Reyami.
